Dear Ms. Huff:

Each year, Distinguished Engineering Alumni Awards are presented to a select group of of graduates who have made outstanding contributions in their fields.

Since the program was initiated in 1964, the Schools of Engineering have recognized 363 of their 93,868 graduates -less than one out of every 258- as Distinguished Engineering Alumni.

I am pleased and privileged to inform you that the faculties of the Schools of Engineering have selected you to receive a 2000 Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award. The schedule calls for the presentation to be made at a special Engineering Convocation on Friday, April 28, 2000. Each year, the convocation is one of the highlights of Purdue's Gala Week.

According to University customs and regulations, those who receive DEA awards must be present for the ceremony. Rarely has this presented a problem, but in the event of an unresolvable conflict or illness, the faculty has, in the past, reconsidered the candidate for an award the following year . I hope you can attend the convocation so that we may recognize your outstanding professional career and distinguished record of service to our society . Please let me know as soon as possible whether you can join us on April 28, 2000 so that we may give you more details about the day's activities.

Sincerely,

Richard J. Schwartz
Dean, Schools of Engineering
