Soil & Groundwater Remediation

Huff & Huff, Inc. has extensive experience in soil and groundwater remediation.  Our areas of expertise include the following areas:

  • Cost-Effective Investigations and Remediation
  • Preparation of Remedial Investigations
  • Feasibility Studies
  • Remedial Actions Plans
  • Various documents for various state programs

Our remedial investigations vary in scope from shallow (less than 20 feet) groundwater contamination problems to those affecting aquifers up to 200 feet in depth. The contaminants we have investigated and/or remediated include coal tar from former manufactured gas plants, petroleum products, halogenated solvents, non-halogenated solvents, chlorides, nitrates, pesticides, and pharmaceutical products.  We have conducted investigations and remediation in the following states:

  • Nebraska
  • Louisiana
  • Texas
  • Indiana
  • Kansas
  • Michigan
  • Missouri
  • California
  • Massachusetts
  • Ohio
  • North Dakota
  • Wisconsin
  • Illinois
  • New York

Source removal has been consistently shown to be the key in cost-effective groundwater remediation, often followed by natural attenuation.  One cost-effective investigation technique we have successfully used is passive diffusers to identify source areas early on.

Full-scale remediation systems designed by the firm include the following:

  • Emulsified Zero Valent Iron (EZVI) for chlorinated solvents
  • Free Product Recovery Systems, both active and passive
  • Sparging, in combination with soil vapor extraction
  • In Situ Enhanced Biological Treatment (both aerobic and anaerobic)
  • In Situ Oxidation
